The Friends of Oystermouth Castle, are ecstatic after securing 'The Kings Award for Voluntary Service' (KAVS). Previously known as The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, this award was established in 2002 to mark Her Late Majesty The Queen’s Golden Jubilee and was continued following the accession of His Majesty The King. It is the equivalent of an MBE for a volunteer group.
KAVS Chair, Sir Martyn Lewis CBE said: “The King’s Award for Voluntary Service is the top award for groups of volunteers who beaver away at a grassroots level to transform vital aspects of life in their local community.
Chair of the Friends, Paul Lewis, expressed pride and gratitude: “Receiving the King’s Award for Voluntary Service is a marvellous recognition of our team’s dedication. It’s a tribute to every volunteer’s commitment, team effort, support, hard work and our shared passion for preserving Oystermouth Castle’s unique heritage for future generations.”
Oystermouth gets very busy in the summer months. There are 3 car parks at the bottom of the Oystermouth Village on Mumbles Road but if these are full try one of the Underhill Car Parks, which are at the top of the village and often missed by visitors.
To get to the car parks from Mumbles Road, turn up Newton Road when you see the White Rose pub on the corner. Continue up Newton Road past Marks & Spencer on the left until you get to a road junction with traffic lights. You will see a school playground on your right and a church on your left.
